Free Shutter Count is a small and useful utility application that can read the information from your digital camera and display the number of pictures have been taken based on the shutter count.

The program was originally developed for owners of Canon EOS cameras but has since expanded support for both Nikon and Sony digital DSLR and mirrorless cameras. All that is required is a USB connection to the device.

And you can save a trip to a service center by doing the reading for yourself. ShutterCount will find and use the image with the latest date/time on the card. Optionally you can open an image file directly: drag&drop the file onto ShutterCount, or use File Open. You must use a memory card, ShutterCount can't read the file from the camera directly.

If you're having issues connecting the device and having it recognized in the program, you can always use the built-in driver installer that comes with the application called Zadig: it's accessible from the 'USB Drivers' feature.

The main function of Free Shutter Count is to look up the data on the actual physical chip of the camera, but if you're having trouble with drivers or accessing that information, you can always view the latest picture taken to grab the information from the EXIF data stored within the photo itself.
